The Alaskan Malamute (/ ˈ m æ l ə ˌ m j uː t /) is a large breed of domestic dog (Canis lupus familiaris) originally bred for their strength and endurance to haul heavy freight as a sled dog. Alaskan Malamutes are a large-bodied breed of dog known for their strength and endurance as sled dogs.
