Scharnhorst and Bismarck met their end at sea, Graf Spee was scuttled to avoid a battle, and the remainder of the fleet rotted in port after the collapse of the German surface fleet, eventually being destroyed by bombing raids. With lessons learned from those ships, the Germans would begin the real core of the fleet, the six battleships of the H-39 class.

The true reason why Germany used two-gun turrets, rather than three-gun turrets, was because they had no choice.
I know this is pretty much necroing an old thread but I have to comment on this. From my readings on the Kriegsmarine they had four battleships but i also read there were to be six more H class battleships one of them being the H 39 which was actually laid down, but the others were not. The Bismark, along with the Tirpitz, famously has the title of being the largest battleship ever built by Germany and technically the largest ever built by any European country. Nassau class battleships German H-Class and Bismarck-Class Battleships kept the 15cm Secondary Artillery against Ships. A total of six German battleships served during WWII, the most diverse mix of ships of any of the major powers. German 1930's/WWII ships were aimed at commerce raiding. Alright, there’s a lot of misconception here. 1 Two, Schleswig-Holstein and Schlesien, were veterans of Jutland, built to designs pre-dating Dreadnought.The next pair, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau, were among the handful of interwar capital ships that didn't approach the 35,000 ton limit of the Washington Naval Treaty. Actually, the H-Class refer to the battleships that were planned to be produced in the Z plan following the Bismarck model , not all of the battleships that were going to be built , srry if i made it hard to understand it, will modify the post.
