Many of their works have been wrongly attributed to men artists.
Women had created art for centuries. Although women artists have been involved in the making of art throughout history, their work, when compared to that of their male counterparts, has been often obfuscated, overlooked and undervalued. It wasn’t the beginning of feminist activism, as they had fought and won the right to vote after the end of WWI. Female artists, regardless of race, are typically overlooked in Western art where the white male dominates. 30. Women had created art for centuries. Black women artists participate in every medium and offer alternatives to the narratives created by the dominant culture. Their works are diverse, dynamic, and stand the test of their male contemporaries without question. Put simply, feminist art is art by artists created consciously in light of developments in feminist art theory in the early 1970s. Feminist artists often embraced alternative materials that were connected to the female gender to create their work, such as textiles, or other media previously little used by men such as performance and video, which did not have the same historically male-dominated precedent that painting and sculpture carried.
