The Gambel's quail is a member of the New World quail family, and is actually a small ground-living bird. I have a Gambel Quail nest in my backyard (inside the paddle cactus). The male’s prominent black belly patch distinguishes it from the similar California Quail. It's main habitats are the desert regions of Sonora, Utah, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, California, Arizona and Colorado. It is surrounded by the fairways of the Renegade Golf Course and many of the homes have perfect golf views.
