March 19th is the feast day of the patron of the universal church, fathers, families, married people, and much more: Saint Joseph.
St. Joseph is one of the more obscure saints, and everything we know about him comes from Scripture. Joseph is the patron saint of the dying because, assuming he died before Jesus' public life, he died with Jesus and Mary close to him, the way we all would like to leave this earth. St. Joseph is the patron of the universal church in Roman Catholicism, and his life is recorded in the Gospels, particularly Matthew and Luke. Joseph is also patron saint of the Universal Church, families, fathers, expectant mothers (pregnant women), travelers, immigrants, house sellers and buyers, craftsmen, engineers, and working people in general. Saint Joseph died in the arms of Jesus and Mary. Joseph was a descendant of the house of King David. He was also declared to be the patron saint and protector of the Catholic Church by Pope Pius IX in 1870, and is the patron of several countries and regions.
Saint Joseph has two feast days: one on March 19, to commemorate his death, and now, one on May 1, to commemorate his vocation as a carpenter and as the patron and protector of all workers. The Litany of St. Joseph, in referring to him as a “patron of the dying” gives one of many examples of his patronage. The faithful ask for his assistance for workers, home buyers (and sellers) and, of course, carpenters, among many others! Already a patron saint of Mexico, Canada and Belgium, in 1870, Joseph was declared patron of the universal church by Pope Pius IX, and in 1955 Pope Pius XII …

When this litany is prayed in public, the congregation responds to a leader with the words in italics. In Catholic and other traditions, Joseph is the patron saint of workers and has several feast days. Saint Peter Chrysologus, Doctor of the Church, tells us that the Holy Family had no servants.
